Figma Decides to Swallow After Effects and Your Code Editor Whole

Our favorite digital drawing board just dropped its Config 2026 updates, and it is clear they won't stop until every designer, developer, and motion artist is trapped in their ecosystem forever. Say goodbye to switching tabs, and say hello to ultimate bloat.

The design giant is turning the canvas into a live-action development playground. With the new Code Layers feature, developers can plug their actual code repositories straight into the design files. Instead of staring at static mockups that look nothing like the final app, teams can now pull real user scenarios and render active code directly onto the screen as editable design layers.

Naturally, this integration goes both ways, allowing layout changes made on the canvas to be converted right back into clean code, which will surely not break anything in production. To ensure no one ever opens another application again, the platform also introduced Motion, an in-app motion design tool featuring a timeline editor, pre-made transition templates, and AI-prompted animations. This effectively kills the tedious routine of exporting assets to third-party motion software just to see how a button bounces.

Visual artists also get a massive upgrade with WebGPU shaders running directly on the design canvas. Users can now generate and apply complex visual effects, custom textures, and dynamic gradients using AI prompts, entirely bypassing external rendering engines.

Finally, the corporate AI hype train rolls on with custom skills for AI agents. Teams can now feed these digital helpers custom Markdown files containing step-by-step instructions, alongside giving them access to external files from cloud storage, Notion databases, and live web search.

By turning a vector design tool into a hybrid of a code IDE, 3D renderer, and animation studio, the platform is rapidly evolving into an operating system of its own. It is brilliant, terrifying, and guaranteed to make laptops melt from RAM overload.
