The silver medal goes to Google’s integrated Gemini, holding a solid 27.7%, while Claude from Anthropic sits at 10.3%. The rest of the playground, including Elon’s Grok, Perplexity, DeepSeek, and Meta AI, are currently fighting for crumbs with less than 5% each.
It turns out users are no longer loyal monogamists when it comes to AI. People are actively juggling multiple bots for different tasks. Gemini thrives purely because it is shoved into every Android phone and Google search bar, while Claude has earned a reputation as the smart kid who actually gets work done.
Values also started playing a role, much to the tech bros' surprise. After OpenAI signed a cozy contract with the Pentagon in February, a wave of angry users immediately uninstalled the app.
Panicking about the slow leak, OpenAI is rushing to monetize. They started testing ads in ChatGPT, showing them to 17% of daily users by May. Meanwhile, Claude is quietly showing how real business is done, converting a massive 13% of its user base into paying subscribers.
The global AI app market is still growing, with users spending over $4.2 billion in the first half of the year. However, the golden rush is cooling down, and app downloads in Asia have actually dropped by 3.3%, signaling that the initial hype might finally be hitting a wall.
